There are parts where I literally laughed out loud whilst reading! The relationship Hazel Grace and Augustus share is so adorable. This novel really has a special message to any teenager struggling with their health like me and so many others!Īmid all of the pandemonium of being sick teenagers, John gives each character such a great sense of humor.

John wrote this book in her honor, and it just makes the book have so much more meaning. This is not a true story, but it is inspired by a real girl named Esther Earl who lost her battle to cancer when she was sixteen. The book is from the point of view of Hazel, and throughout the entire story, I genuinely felt like it was her speaking out. John Green does a wonderful job of showing a very real side to illnesses, and also a very real side to teenagers in general.

“Nothing is sugar-coated,” in the words of Hazel Grace.
